These writers put their tongue in their cheek

self deprecation   

trying to win the crowd

shitting in their hat

bowing like a buffoon

because they’re afraid 

afraid to say what they feel

with a straight face

comes off too cockstrong

or too desperate

too pathetic

it’s either genuine 

or it’s not

let all of those other judgements

fall on def ears

that’s the good thing about writing in the first place

a one way ticket

you listen

whatever happens in your head

is your problem

I just planted a seed

you picked the flower

put it in your hair

but I will help you style it

with a can of hairspray
